Clinicaland Management Tracts

Thereare advancement opportunities that one can have as a professionalnurse with a BSN. A BSN can allow an individual to advance his/hercareer and become a leader in nursing industry. Sometime one may nolonger desire to perform physically demanding job of acute care. Onemay wish to have a different job schedule rather than having workshifts, holidays and weekends. An individual may have a desire ofgoing to the next level and have a masters or even a doctoral degree. The United States Department of Labor indicates that a registerednurse having at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing has a betterjob prospect. Another opportunity that one may have entails enteringin the management level nursing. Management-level nursing needs oneto have an advanced degree like a BSN. In the management level, onecan enter in a career such as being a head nurse, nursing director, chief of nursing or even vice president. Other career opportunitiesmay include consultancy, teaching in universities or colleges, anddoing research. A nurse having a BSN has a better position ofmanaging acute, ambulatory services, homes-based services, or evenchronic care services. A BSN will also allow an individual to ventureinto the business part of nursing such as engaging in hospitalbusiness, starting an insurance company, managing care organizations, and pharmaceutical manufacturer business. It is a requirement for aperson to have a BSN so as to be a pharmaceutical manufacturer(UnitedStatesBureau of Labor Statistics, 2008). Besides, health planning, marketing, quality assurance, and policy development requires one tohave a BSN. In addition, another opportunity entails entering intonon-clinical and supervisory positions. Most health care institutionshave a BSN-required or BSN-preferred policy for advancement intonon-clinical and supervisory positions. Also, a BSN is required orpreferred for almost all public health positions in the United Statesand most research positions in health care require one to have a BSN.Furthermore, those institutions that are seeking or have magnetstatus require or prefer a BSN.

Opportunitiesin the clinical field are diverse. One of the opportunities in theclinical field entails clinical specialization. Registered nursesusually begin their careers as generalists and become employedwherever they are required in the system. With time, some nurses finda passion for a particular niche in the nursing profession. They mayopt to engage in surgery and become perioperative nurses or may optto work with a particular group of patients like pregnant women andgeriatric patients (UnitedStatesBureau of Labor Statistics, 2008). Another opportunity in theclinical field entails advanced practice. Registered nurses canpursue advancement through advanced practice nursing, which mayinclude nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, clinical nursespecialists, and nurse anesthetics. In addition, another opportunitythat one can engage in the clinical field entails practice ininformatics. Although nursing is chiefly a clinical profession, it isnot all nurses that practice in the nursing profession. The healthindustry is highly computerized, which make some nurses train ininformatics. Nurses that train in informatics are in high demandsince management requires the use of information systems. On theother hand, management track can help an individual in entering inadvancement positions. Management track can aid a nurse inparticipating in leadership positions due to the organization skillsthat an individual has. The management track that I would chooseentails that of leadership. The chief reason for choosing thismanagement track is because it has a wide range of applications.
